FAQ

What is BVO?

Baron Von Opperbean and the River of Time is an immersive world of art, storytelling, exploration, and interactive environments located on Mud Island in Memphis.

What do you do inside?

Explore at your own pace through immersive environments filled with art, interaction, hidden details, and discovery.

Look closer. Open things. Search for hidden spaces. Interact with the world around you and follow your curiosity.

There’s no single path through the experience. Some guests move through quickly, while others spend over an hour uncovering unexpected moments woven throughout the River of Time.

Is BVO an escape room, museum, or haunted house?

No. BVO is a free-roaming immersive experience designed for exploration, discovery, and play.

There are no timed puzzles, jump scares, or required routes.

Is there a set path or guided tour?

No. Guests move freely through the environment and explore in their own way.

Groups are welcome to stay together or split up during the experience.

Do I need to interact with things?

Curiosity is encouraged.

Guests who slow down, explore carefully, and interact with the environment often discover much more throughout the experience.

How long does the experience take?

Most guests spend 60–90 minutes exploring, though every visit is different.

Guests who slow down, interact, and explore deeply often discover much more.

Is BVO scary?

BVO is designed to feel adventurous, mysterious, and immersive — but not frightening or horror-based.

Some spaces may be dark, atmospheric, or surprising for younger children.

What ages is BVO for?

BVO is designed for both kids and adults to explore together.

Families, friends, solo travelers, and curious adults are all welcome. Many details and discoveries are designed to be appreciated differently across ages.

Children should always be supervised by an adult, and we encourage adults to actively explore, interact, and play alongside them.

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably for movement and exploration.

This is an active environment that may include stairs, hidden passages, crouching, and interactive spaces. Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended.

Can I take photos or videos?

Yes. Phones and casual photography are welcome.

We encourage guests to capture memories while also taking time to fully experience the environment.

Professional photography equipment, flash photography, tripods, and large detachable-lens cameras are not permitted unless approved in advance.

What does “Phase One” mean?

BVO is designed as an evolving world that expands over time.

Phase One — currently open — includes the first 8,000 square feet of the larger planned 33,000-square-foot River of Time experience, with future phases adding new spaces, discoveries, and interactive elements as the world continues to grow.

Will the experience change over time?

Yes.

BVO is designed as an evolving world. New discoveries, interactive elements, story layers, digital content, environments, and future phases will continue to develop over time.

Even areas already open may grow and change as the River of Time expands.

Do I need tickets in advance?

Advance ticket purchase is recommended.

Walk-up tickets are welcome when space allows.

Why are tickets sold in time slots?

Timed entry helps maintain flow, pacing, and exploration throughout the experience.

Guests are welcome to stay and explore beyond their entry window once inside.

What happens if I’m late?

We’ll do our best to accommodate late arrivals based on capacity and the next available entry window.

Where do I park?

Paid parking is available on Mud Island.

Guests may also park downtown and walk across the bridge during park operating hours. Bridge access may close earlier in the evening, so island parking is recommended for later entry times.

Can I re-enter after leaving?

Please check with a team member before exiting. Same-day re-entry may depend on capacity and operational flow.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes, though some areas of the experience include stairs, narrow pathways, and exploratory spaces that may be more difficult to navigate with larger strollers.

Is BVO wheelchair accessible?

Much of the experience is accessible, though some exploratory spaces, stairs, crawl areas, and hidden passages may have limited accessibility.

Are there flashing lights or sensory effects?

BVO includes immersive lighting, sound, projection, atmospheric effects, and dark spaces that may affect guests with sensory sensitivities or epilepsy.

Guests should use personal discretion based on their comfort level.

Are there restrooms inside?

Yes.

Is there food or drink inside?

Food and drinks are not currently part of the experience, but there are restaurants and attractions nearby in downtown Memphis and along the riverfront.

Is BVO connected to Meow Wolf?

No. BVO is independently created in Memphis by local artists, builders, storytellers, and collaborators.
